Ye Olde Mitre

Built in 1546 for the servants of the Bishops of Ely, The Ye Olde Mitre is famous for having a cherry tree, (now supporting the front) that Queen Elizabeth once danced around with Sir Christopher Hatton. The pub was actually a part of Cambridge (Ely being in Cambridge) and the licencees used to have to go there for their licence. Set in a part of London steeped in history, it's near where William Wallace was hung, drawn and quartered at Smithfield, along with martyers and traitors who were also killed nearby. A wonderful historic London pub set in Ely Court, The Ye Olde Mitre takes traditional pub-keeping seriously. With a wealth of real ales on tap, great home-made bar snacks, and a friendly team behind the bar, this really is one of the best watering holes in historic London. The Ye Olde Mitre has become quite well known for its home-made bar snacks, try one of our great toasted sandwiches! Our multi award-winning beers are some of the best in London; we have seven real ales on tap, these include a minimum of 6 guest ales per week from across the country and a real scrumpy cider, too.
